Sample Cycle Trip Itinerary
Bicycle tours around Southern England
In order to get the very best from the
attractions in this area, we concentrate on one tour, visiting all the
"must see" sights via the best cycling routes. However, the
length of the tour can be varied to your requirements, and can range
from 1 to 5 days (or more if required).
Our most popular trip will be the 5 nights
which will include:
Day 1 Arrive in Amesbury .First night
at Catkin Lodge.
Day 2 To Pewsey via Woodhenge, Salisbury
Plain, Pewsey Downs with its White Horse and maybe a crop circle or
two. Night in Pewsey which is a pleasant County town with some good
Pubs.
Day 3 via the Kennet and Avon towpath
towards Honey Street and
the barge Inn which is the headquarters of the crop circle fraternity
and an ideal stop for lunch, with a great view of the Alton Barnes White
Horse. Continue over the Marlborough Downs to Avebury. Avebury is one
of the Highlights of the tour and in many ways the Stone Circle is better
than Stonehenge,in that there are less people and there is free access
to the stones. Avebury village, some of which lies within the stone
circle has a variety of shops, a Pub and a
Museum. Continue on quiet roads and canal towpath to the delightful
Market Town of Devizes. Devizes has escaped much of the modernization
which has spoilt so many English Towns, and consequently has retained
much of its character, with many small independent shops, restaurants
and Pubs. Horse
Drawn Drays can often be seen delivering barrels of
beer from the Wadsworth Brewery to the local Inns. There is also a very
good Museum which has a lot of information about Woodhenge, Stonehenge
and a lot of the other sites on the Salisbury Plain.
Day 4 From Devizes via the Caen Hill flight
of 22 locks through country lanes across the Salisbury Plain and to
the ancient site of Stonehenge. Continue
back to Amesbury.
Day 5 a Circular route through the very
scenic Woodford Valley and to the pictures historic city of Salisbury
and the magnificent cathedral. Also
visit the site of the former city of Salisbury at Old Sarum. Return
along the Avon river to Amesbury for last night in lodge.
